A History

The origin of our allergy practice goes back over 74 years ago when James Eugene Stroh Sr., M.D., was a young internal medicine physician practicing in Seattle, WA.  He became interested in the newly emerging field of allergic diseases and visited three allergy practices on the East Coast.  In 1938 he began to focus exclusively on the diagnosis and treatment of allergy related conditions.  In 1967 he was joined by his son, James Eugene Stroh Jr., M.D., who had just finished his allergy fellowship training at the University of Washington.

Rick Lane Johnson, M.D., another University of Washington Allergy Fellowship graduate practicing in Seattle, and Drs. Stroh joined their practices in 1974 to become Allergy and Asthma Associates.  Soon after they opened a second office in Bellevue.  Garrison Ayars, M.D., joined the practice in 1983.  In 1984 Susan Marshall, M.D., a pediatric allergist, joined to provide care for children beginning in infancy.

Charles Jackson, M.D., also a pediatric allergist, became a member of the practice in 1987 when Dr. Marshall returned to Seattle Children’s Hospital to pursue a full time academic career.  In 1989 D. Robert Webb, M.D., added his expertise in clinical drug research to our practice, at which time we opened an office in Kirkland in addition to our Bellevue and Seattle locations.  Harvey Meulbroek, M.D., joined the Seattle office in 1992.  We have provided allergy service in satellite clinics in Monroe and Snoqualmie, as well as Dr. Webb’s clinics in Ketchikan, AK, and Dr. Jackson’s clinics in Juneau and Ketchikan, AK, over the past 17 years.

In 2002, Drs. Johnson, Stroh and Muelbroek retired, while Drs. Ayars, Jackson, and Webb continued Allergy and Asthma associates in Kirkland and Bellevue.  Dr. Webb retired in 2007.   The addition of Kevin Dooms, M.D., in 2012 marks a new phase of growth, continuing the three-quarter century tradition of excellence in allergy care that Allergy and Asthma Associates represents.
